What Does It Take to Be a Tutor?

A kind and caring person, and a willingness to ask questions.

Forward Scholars welcomes volunteers with a variety of schedules, availabiltiy and levels of experience. No teaching experience is required—we provide training, materials, and ongoing support from experienced site coordinators.

Whether you're looking to tutor regularly or serve as a substitute, there's a role for you.


Tutoring Options

Regular Tutor

1 hour, twice a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday)

Build a consistent relationship with one student and support their reading growth throughout the school year.

Share a Student

1 hour, once a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday)

Partner with another tutor to support the same student while maintaining a lighter weekly commitment.

Substitute Tutor

As available throughout the school year

Step in when needed to support students and ensure tutoring sessions continue when regular tutors are unavailable.
